Dhanteras

Dhanteras, also known as Dhanatrayodashi, marks the first day of the five-day Diwali festival and is celebrated on the thirteenth lunar day of Krishna Paksha in the month of Kartik (October–November). It is considered an auspicious day for wealth, prosperity, and well-being. On this day, people in India clean and decorate their homes, light oil lamps (diyas), and purchase gold, silver, and new utensils as it is believed to bring good fortune. Devotees worship Lord Dhanvantari, the god of health and Ayurveda, and Goddess Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth, seeking blessings for good health and prosperity.

In India, Dhanteras is celebrated with great enthusiasm across states. Business communities perform special Lakshmi Puja rituals to invite wealth and success for the coming year. Markets are crowded with shoppers buying precious metals, coins, and household items. Families prepare traditional sweets and exchange gifts, while homes are illuminated with rows of lamps symbolizing the dispelling of darkness and the welcoming of positive energy. The festival beautifully blends devotion, cultural traditions, and the spirit of renewal and abundance.
